As per popular request, the "Classic crucifix" is a smaller version of the large "Chapel crucifix". It expresses a combined sense of drama and elegance through the accomplished carving of the wood. Unlike the large version, it emphasizes Christ's agony, pain and suffering.
The symmetrical body and stylized carving of the rib cage convey a sense of calm detachment in the transcendent moment, when he sublimated his physical pain and commended his spirit to God. His face and his torso are articulated with fine interior and exterior lines of his body and the mannered flow of his loincloth echoes the restless movement of the river's current.
